About Us
In 2021 Abi Zakarian, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm & Sampira launched Terrifying Women as a platform to put more horror writing by women on stage.
As friends, writers and huge horror fans, we noticed there was virtually no horror staged in theatre. Horror is often wrongly regarded as a less complex genre, looked down on as low-brow and ignored by theatres as worthy of commissioning or programming, so we resolved to create a night that showcased their horror-based work and demonstrated how this most maligned of genres is deserving of more attention on stage.

Quickly joined by producer Amanda Castro, we decided to keep it simple and make short, sharp, shocking plays that reflected our shared love of horror while shining a light on an often overlooked and underrepresented genre in UK theatre. Five hugely successful shows later, we have built a diverse repertoire of horror for stage created by and for women and non binary people.Every show follows a simple format: short monologues no longer than 20 minutes each, minimal staging and effects, with a focus on character and storytelling to scare, surprise and stimulate audiences.
